Bass Fishing Tips

Catching Bass during Spawn

Here are some tips on how to catch largemouth bass during the spawn:

  • Find the proper water temperature. Bass typically spawn when the water temperature reaches roughly 60-65 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Look for shallow, protected areas. Bass will typically spawn in shallow, protected areas with abundant vegetation. Look for areas with water depths of 2-4 feet.
  • Use the right baits and lures. Bass may feed heavily just before the spawn, so use baits and lures that mimic their natural prey. Soft plastic baits, crankbaits, and spinnerbaits are all excellent options.
  • Be patient. Bass can be finicky during the spawn, so be patient and don’t get discouraged if you don’t catch any fish right away.

Here are some specific baits and techniques that can be effective for catching largemouth bass during the spawn:

  • Texas-rigged soft plastic baits: Texas-rigged soft plastic baits, such as worms, crawfish, and lizards, are an excellent option for fishing in shallow water. These baits should be worked slowly.
  • Jerkbaits: Jerkbaits can be used to cover water quickly and find a bass that are holding in deeper water. When fishing jerkbaits, make sure to pause the bait to allow the bass to have a chance to strike.
  • Spinnerbaits: Spinnerbaits are a versatile bait that can catch bass in various water conditions. When fishing spinnerbaits, keep the bait moving at a slow to moderate pace.
  • Be quiet. Bass can also hear very well, so it’s important to be quiet when fishing during the spawn. Avoid making any unnecessary noise.

By following these tips, you’ll be well on your way to catching some big bass during the spawn.
