Bass Fishing Tips

Spinnerbaits for bass fishing

Spinnerbaits are an excellent option for bass fishing as they are easy to use, versatile, and can be used in any type of water clarity, from clear to stained and dirty. They have a unique vibration and sound that can attract bass, and come in a wide range of blade sizes and shapes, making them ideal for various fishing conditions. Additionally, they are effective for fishing in grass and areas with low visibility, as the large blades create a lot of vibration and sound that can attract bass even in murky water. Spinnerbaits are also great for all seasons, but they are especially effective in the spring and fall when bass are actively feeding.

To get the most out of your time fishing with a spinnerbait, it's important to choose the right line, rod, reel, and colors.  Changing the speed of the spinnerbait can be effective by making it look like it is fleeing away from predators. Additionally, matching the skirt color of the spinnerbait to the forage is essential. Using multi-blade spinnerbaits in clear water can help increase your success rate.  A basic steady retrieve can be effective in warmer waters, and fishing the shoreline at a 45-degree to 90-degree angle can be an effective technique because it keeps the lure in the strike zone longer.

Spinnerbaits can feature one, two or three blades that spin around the wire arm that the hook is attached to. The blades are usually made of metal and come in four categories: Fast blades (Willowleaf, Minnow, and Whiptail), Moderate blades (Dakota, Swing, and Tomahawk), Medium or Mid-ranged blades (Colorado and Indiana), and Slow blades (French, Colorado Long Arm, and Magnum). The size and thickness of the blades affect the vibration and flash of the spinnerbait, as well as whether it runs upright or on its side. Single or double Colorado blades are the most common type, as they have a round cupped surface that offers the most vibration and lift of any blade type. Indiana blades are a reduced, elongated version of a Colorado but have less vibration and more flash. For beginners, it's recommended to use the one that comes in the package.

Spinnerbaits produce a very distinctive sound in the water. It is a loud, thumping sound that can be heard when the blades spin and vibrate. This sound attracts bass, making them more likely to strike. Spinnerbaits work well for catching bass because the vibrations generated by the blades attract bass from a distance, and the blades create a flash, drawing in bass from a larger area. They are great for covering a lot of water.
